Tonight I learned something valuable to me.
Seems the talking heads all think Hillary is staying in the race to win (just in case the Earth opens and swallows Obama whole) or to maintain a position of power if she loses.
We're hearing a lot of chatter about Hillary as potential VP and Obama helping her to retire her debt. There are other options out there as well. I'm interested in discussing some of those.
My nephew is six years old. He loves to play war. Almost every time I see him we've gotta go outside, armed with lightsablers (such a collection he has!) and run around whacking each other and screeching. I'm a middle-aged woman. It's not dignified, trust me. He likes to defend his 'fort' (the playstructure) and since I'm tall enough to poke at him in there I've never launched a full-scale invasion. He loves playing Army, with his matchbox cars, the little planes, lego monstrosities. He's a kid, and his dad is an Air Force surgeon, so it's not surprising that my lil buddy can't wait to grow up and enlist in the military.
But he's six. He might change his mind about that. I don't want him drafted because our next president decides that their interests are best served by provoking Iran with talk of 'obliteration' during the next few years while our current intelligence suggests they do not have nuclear weapons. That kind of talk just gives other countries more justification for building their own arsenal, as it shows the level we'll escalate to if we feel (rightly, wrongly or homespun) that our control over their part of the world is being thwarted.
That's a phrase that's stuck with me., and I like to use it to describe all the freshly awakened people who recently feel empowered as they announce, "Yes, we can."
But don't let the words 'Obama Nation' tumble trippingly off your tongue, ok?
Speculation:
Hillary is tri-angulating for the White House, no matter the outcome of the dem primaries and convention.
This diary is only useful to those who are interested in exploring unconventional ways of thinking about things. If you're looking for standard-style journalism there's nothing to see here. Move along, folks.
Frankly, I hope I'm completely delusional here, because if my gut is right on this one.... I dunno quite how to think about that, yet. As they say, just because you're paranoid, that doesn't exclude the possibility that you really are being persecuted.
Earlier today I commented in one of the numerous 'bitter' diaries that I'm starting to look forward to these so-called 'gaffes' of Obama's. He surely does have a knack for turning soundbite misrepresentations of his meaning into opportunities to show his insight regarding the more nuanced facets of taboo subjects where lesser politicians fear to tread, doesn't he? I love it that he doesn't have to backtrack, flip-flop, or deny his words, deeds or intentions to manage damage control. He just expands his original statement while admitting that his choice of words was imprecise. That is sooooooo refreshing given the standards we've come to accept (and often expect) from our political leaders nowadays!
Obama's inspiring message of Hope got the ball rolling. It's 'sticky', people were drawn to it en masse. Hope rumbled up an avalanche of interest, generated an unprecedented number of new voters and financial supporters who wanted to share in nurturing the dream.
Now it's time to evolve the Hope, Inspiration and Change theme to its logical conclusion, before it's too late.
I've been thinking about how the dems will pull together once Obama has secured the nomination. It's pretty ugly out there. The Hillary folks have their reasons for supporting her, or maybe for not supporting Obama and defaulting into Hillary's camp. I'm worn out reading the same old arguments, seems there's very little new aside from escalating levels of animosity. I'm saddened when I see Obama folks degenerate into the realm of dirty tricks, latching onto out-of-context soundbites, absurd hyperbole. I'm saddened because, if anyone has the right to fight those tactics with similar, it would be Obama himself. And he doesn't. He proceeds with confidence that integrity, decency and inclusiveness will prevail. I think his supporters should consider following his lead.
Now, all civil discussion aside, I'll swandive into the real dark corners of my mind.
